Internet Paranioa
by Stephen on Sep.10, 2005, under Tech Tips
Just because you paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not after you.
Everyone’s worried about spyware, cookies, viruses and worms, and if your not worried your either not using your own computer to surf or very confident in your current security set up (mac users seem to fit in this category form what I’ve seen on other blogs and forums).
Free up some server disk space by deleting IIS logs
by Stephen on Sep.02, 2005, under Tech Tips
IF your server is running out of disk space, its worth having a look to see if IIS is logging all access, if it is and your server has been running a while theres a good chance that the log files have been mounting up and taking up most your space, I’ve just looked at a server thats been logging for about 2 years and clocked up 6Gb of logs.
Norton Sucks
by Stephen on Aug.21, 2005, under Rant
Ok I cant believe this, I’ve had a few problems with Norton, that once its installed after a while it starts trying to repair its installation, fair enough if it was actually able to do that but it doesn’t support the repair option, and just throws an error saying to reinstall it.
Quiz TV
by Stephen on Aug.09, 2005, under Rant
I’ve stumbled across the quiz chanel that Phil got hooked on, it seems interesting they show you a puzzle you phone in to give your answer, if you get on air with the right answer you get money, the longer the puzzles up the more moneys added to the prize, then occasionally they throw in prizes just for getting on air, garenteed money all you have to do is get through, doesn’t matter if you have the wrong answer.
On top of that they have a decent size jackpot that you can play to win, various games to get that too.
The Science of Discworld – Terry Pratchet
by Stephen on Aug.05, 2005, under Books
I was put off buying this book because it sounds like its an encyclopaedia type of book along the lines of ‘the science of the X files’, or ‘the physics of star trek’, this book takes a different view on it and rather than describing the science of the world it describes, it uses the discworld to help understand our world. Describing the science behind discworld would probably be impossible anyway as it runs on magic and common sense not the rules of science.
